Windsor Locks Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)

The Windsor Locks Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) recognizes and celebrates students who exemplify excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. Membership in NJHS is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a middle school student.

 

Purpose

The purpose of NJHS is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage good citizenship among students. Members of the Windsor Locks Middle School Chapter strive to be role models within the school and community, demonstrating integrity, responsibility, and a commitment to making a positive impact.

 

Requirements for Membership

  • Students are invited to apply for membership based on their academic achievement and demonstration of the five NJHS pillars.
 
  • Academic Requirement: Students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.4 or higher.
 
  • Character & Citizenship: Candidates must display honesty, respect, responsibility, and a positive attitude in school and the community (model student) 
 
  • Service: Members are expected to participate in school and community service activities that reflect a willingness to help others without compensation.
 
  • Leadership: Students should take initiative in the classroom, school activities, and community involvement.
 
  • Selection Process: Eligible students are invited to complete an application and are reviewed by the NJHS Faculty Council based on the five pillars of NJHS.
 

The Five Pillars of NJHS

 
  • Scholarship: Commitment to academic excellence and a love of learning.
 
  • Leadership: Demonstrating initiative, reliability, and the ability to inspire others.
 
  • Service: Volunteering time and energy to help others and improve the school and community.
 
  • Character: Acting with integrity, respect, and compassion in all situations.
 
  • Citizenship: Showing responsibility and pride in contributing to the school and community
 

Through NJHS, Windsor Locks Middle School students grow as leaders and citizens, preparing to make a difference in high school and beyond.
